Moving Day – Where the heck are the dishes?

Moving day can be one of the most stressful days imaginable. After packing literally for weeks and then getting up early to meet the movers, you start off exhausted. Now add the stress of keeping the kids and the pets in sight while the movers empty the house. Then pile everyone in the car for the drive to the new home, and hope it takes less than the anticipated six hours.

By the time the truck is at the house and the movers are unloading the kids are so antsy they can’t be still. The pets are frantic and you just want to make the place look organized enough so you can find your toothbrush before bedtime.  Have you been in this situation as well?

My best friend showed up around dinner time with a gift basket. The picnic began and I can’t even begin to say how much it meant to me to not have to find the silverware and plates and try to make something. The fridge was empty anyway, we just moved! Thank heavens for that basket of food. What a nice way to congratulate us on our new home.

Coupons are your friend

I am a coupon freak, I collect all of them. Never throw a coupon away is my motto. I don’t even throw away expired ones. Members of our Military and their families overseas can use expired coupons at the PX of commissary for up to six months after expiration. This is a great service our country does for those men and women.

I typically can do really well by stacking store sales with store coupons and manufacturer coupons. Recently, like everything else in our faltering economy, it seems as if the sales and coupons are getting scarce. I’ve taken to dumpster diving at the local recycling joint to collect unwanted weekly coupon inserts from the Sunday paper. Don’t laugh too hard at me or feel too sorry for me - I spent 18 bucks on a 66 dollar grocery bill after sales, store coupons and Manuf. coupons.

What do I do with items I get for cheap or free that I may never use? Well that’s an easy one, I arrange them nicely in a basket and give them away as gifts.

“Fast” Food with Gourmet Taste

Sometimes cooking seems like a daunting task. Whether you are newlyweds trying to enjoy each other without interruptions,or if you are grieving for a lost loved one there are just some days that preparing a meal is nearly impossible. Meal baskets take the thinking and hard work away. Just a few short preparations and dinner is served.

Meal baskets come in a variety of choices and usually are for breakfast or supper. You can get Italian dinners and pancake breakfasts with real maple syrup. They also include coffees or teas. Meal baskets make wonderful wedding or anniversary gifts.

Unconventional Healing

Eastern medicine has been making it’s way west for many years and now has become a permanent fixture in the United States. From Reiki and Acupuncture to Feng Shui and Qigong. Thousands of Americans had fired their doctors and have adopted the traditional Chinese medicine practices. These people will swaer they were healed, cured or at the least improved by these treatments. Do you know someone who is into the Ancient Chinese way of healing?

Give then a Feng Shui gift basket that features over ten gifts sporting Chinese symbols of harmony.

Spending Less - Giving More

The economy is in a terrible way. People are looking to cut costs wherever they can. One way to get the most bang for your buck is to consider giving a gift basket, such as the  Afternoon Delight basket. Gift baskets give a wide assortment of gifts for a reasonable cost. TheBasketSpot has many gorgeous baskets for any occasion priced under $50 dollars.  The baskets can be personalized to add a more intimate touch. Some can be personalized by the company, and some will have to be personalized by you. I prefer to personalize the basket myself. It gets shipped to me, I inspect it for quality, add a card, gift card, CD or DVD or another appropriate gift for the receiver, then present it in person. Do this and you can’t go wrong.

Help Out Your Favorite Charity

If you are passionate about a particular charity, you can promote donations in small simple ways. When going to an outing or gathering, you can make a dessert and add a topper with the charity’s website or physical address on it. You can also add toppers to door prizes, gift baskets or raffle items. Toppers are easy to make. All you need are toothpicks, construction paper, and good handwriting. Write the name and address of the charity in construction paper, glue it to the toothpick, and insert it in the desserts. You can add these to most any dessert or gift! So go out there and solicit up some donations for your pet group today!
